Welcome to reThink Your Perspective’s blog. To listen to this episode as a Podcast, click here!

This blog is dedicated to finding, sharing and discussing a variety of topics around the struggles our clients and audience go through. Each episode we will discuss a key concept that many humans struggle with and give you a variety of perspectives for you to see the concept through so you can find one that makes it feel easier to deal with.

We hope that you get some benefit from these blog posts, and we would love to hear your thoughts! Don’t hesitate to like, share and comment at the links.

This instalment features a book which was first suggested to me in several of the ‘Thinking Into Results’* lessons created by Bob Proctor and Sandy Gallagher at the Proctor Gallagher Institute, as well as in many of the live calls, mentoring sessions and other videos I have been watching during my journey and is one that I highly recommend on all of my own live sessions.

It is a truly revolutionary book.

Considering it was first published in 1960, it is astounding to me that it has not become a key text in schools around the world as the information contained within would make every single human a better and more productive person. Not only for the good of our species but for them as individuals as well.

The book is available in most good book shops, online and in person, and I highly recommend you get yourself a copy if my write ups resonate with you. I hope they do the book justice but they are only small snippets.

Stay tuned for my reviews over the next couple of weeks as I re-populate and update these blog posts which were originally written in 2022. My version of the book has space for reflection on each of the chapters so I have included my thoughts at the bottom of each of the chapter summaries.

Chapter 3 – Imagination : The First Key To Your Success Mechanism.

Chapter 3 of “Psycho-Cybernetics” by Dr. Maxwell Maltz is all about the power of imagination and how it can help us achieve our goals. Imagine your mind as a powerful tool that can create the life you want. Just like how you use your imagination to play and have fun, you can also use it to make your dreams come true.

In this chapter, Maltz explains that our imagination is like a blueprint for our future. By visualising what we want to achieve, we can train our minds to work towards making it a reality. It’s like creating a movie in your head where you are the main character and you get to decide how the story unfolds.

Your imagination can be used for or against you. You can imagine anything you want and can choose whether it is you succeeding or as the topic of ridicule. Imagination sets the goal by creating the image for your creative mechanism to act on. Humans work in pictures. So your success mechanism will be even more productive and successful if you give it a clear image to work with. Use your imagination to build this picture and act as if you are already living there.

Your brain and nervous system are engineered to react automatically and appropriately to problems and challenges based on your beliefs of a certain situation or environment.

Have faith though!

You can change your beliefs if you no longer believe them to be true or realise that they may not be serving you. Most of your beliefs pass down through your family, through generations of social conditioning. For example, the class system in the UK. Or that we need to have a 9-5 job in order to pay the bills etc… Most just don’t apply anymore!

Practicing In Your Imagination

Mental imaging and roleplaying (mental pictures, rehearsal practice) can actually be more beneficial than physical practice in some circumstances. You need to see yourself doing the thing in advance and imagine the process and outcome. When the time comes to do the thing the body can just do it!

You must first clearly see a thing in your mind before you can do it. Regardless of how much study or physical practice you undertake! If you can’t clearly see yourself doing it (by using your imagination) and succeeding then it won’t happen. The creative success mechanism then takes over and does the job (if you let it!). And much better than consciously forcing it to happen!

This imagination and belief of being able to do something also has a secondary benefit. It influences and updates your self-image. Your self-image is based on how you see yourself which creates the feelings about yourself.

Imagine the change in feelings when you imagine yourself and engage in the feelings that that image of succeeding creates.

Our Creator Would Not Design An Inferior Product

Nature / God / Spirit (whichever you believe when thinking about your creation) would not turn out an inferior product. Our purpose is to express ourselves fully to glorify our creator. We do this by fully expressing our abilities and succeeding, not by staying stuck with feelings of inferiority! Get that image built of you succeeding in your chosen field or activity. Then give your mechanism the space to make it happen by following the steps it gives to you.

How To Integrate This Chapter Into Your Own Life

To integrate the lessons from this chapter into your daily life, here are some helpful tips:

  1. Visualise Your Goals: Take some time each day to imagine yourself achieving your goals. Picture yourself succeeding in school, sports, or any other area of your life you want to improve.
  2. Use Positive Affirmations: Repeat positive statements to yourself, such as “I am capable of achieving great things” or “I have the power to make my dreams come true.” This will help boost your confidence and belief in yourself.
  3. Create a Vision Board: Cut out pictures and words from magazines that represent your goals and dreams. Stick them on a board and place it somewhere you can see it every day. This visual reminder will keep you focused on what you want to achieve.
  4. Practice Mindfulness: Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings throughout the day. If you notice any negative or limiting beliefs creeping in, replace them with positive and empowering thoughts.

Remember, your imagination is a powerful tool that can help you create the life you desire. By harnessing its potential and using it to visualise your success, you can take important steps towards achieving your goals.

The copy of the book I have has spaces after each chapter to write and reflect on an experience from your past that is explained by the principles given in the chapter.

This is what came up for me:

I saw myself…

Travelling the world and I did it shortly after really building the image and taking determined steps towards it.

Passing my driving tests (car, bike and truck!) first time and I achieved them all on the first attempt.

I focused on having a C-section and it happened. Regardless of how much the midwives were telling me it wasn’t going to happen!.

Every goal I have ever really focused on and made steps towards through study and / or actions I have achieved but only to the level I believed I could reach. They only ever happened when I did not force them. If I was not worried about the outcome, I got what I believed. When I worried or doubted or compared myself to others I failed.
