What Mindset Types Do You Have?

Please refer to my previous post to learn about what a mindset is and where it comes from. This post is concerned with the different mindset types you can develop.

My next post will go deeper into the growth and fixed mindsets, but there are many other mindsets that you can switch between that are all equally beneficial. And that are complimentary for the growth mindset we each need to reach the success we seek!

Growth Mindset

A growth mindset is the belief that your talents and skills can be developed. Not just through hard work and practice but also working smarter. It is the foundation for all change.

With a growth mindset you are able to develop any skill you want to learn. It takes a combination of hard work, training, effective practice, guidance from others and persistence.

This mindset types also sets the foundation for other positive mindsets to develop. Without the belief that you can improve anything you want to improve within yourself, you will find it very difficult to harness the persistence and discipline needed to reach your success.

Abundance Mindset Types

A mindset of abundance is when you believe that there is enough to go around for everyone. It is not just about money, it is much more than that!

Spilled jar of pennies creating a pattern of coins representing savings and finance.

It encompasses an openness to the ‘riches’ of the world. These riches are not just material things. Riches can include a loving family, feelings of inclusivity, good friends, experiences, ideas, sunshine, nature, love, comfort… All those things that money can’t buy but are priceless.

Thinking from abundance embraces a win-win approach because it believes that there is enough for everyone. That no-one need go without. You must simply allow abundance to happen rather than trying to force it.

The universe, God, spirit, higher being (whichever one you believe in) wants us to have an abundant life. But we must play along to co-create the joyful and abundant life we want. You do this by following the following six steps.

These will not create abundance overnight. There is no such thing as get rich quick (except the lottery!), and this won’t be easy. But the journey toward living more abundantly will be worth every rise and fall, success and blunder, and the sense of achievement as you complete each little step.

Six Steps To Create Abundance In Your Life

  1. Get prepared. With the right mindset, you are capable of being, doing and having anything you want. But to attract what you really want you must believe you deserve it and make space for it. You must feel good about yourself, be proud of your accomplishments, and connect with how phenomenal you are!
  2. Choose something worthy of you. Spend time dreaming about the life you want, the person you want to be. Make a list of everything you want to be, do or have and pay no mind as to how you will get it or if you believe you are capable of it. Prioritise this list and then choose the one you want more than anything else.
  3. Go “there” in your mind. Every thought you have is on a frequency. Everything you have now is the result of past and current thoughts, but the life you want is on a higher frequency. If you were on that frequency already, you’d already be living the life you want! To get to this higher frequency you must raise your thoughts so you resonate with it. You do that by thinking as that person, spending time in that place as that person in your imagination.
  4. Internalise it. Get emotionally involved with the ideas and images you can see in your mind. Write it down in detail, create a script describing your life when you have achieved it. Feel the emotions that that person will feel and allow them to grow.
  5. Believe it will happen. Make the committed decision that you will get what you want. Understand that your goal will happen; understanding is the opposite of doubt and worry.  Believing is knowing, in your imagination, that you are already where you want to go. Live from that place, make it your home, make your belief match the images and fuse with it. This results in the activation and projection of plots, plans, conditions, circumstances and synchronicities that bring your idea to fruition.
  6. Act on these thoughts and ideas! The Law of Attraction applies to your physical actions as well as your mental and emotional states. Every action you take sends out an energetic frequency into the world and is linked to the types of things you manifest or don’t manifest into your life. When you take actions that are linked to thoughts and feelings of abundance, you send out positive, expansive energy that magnetises what you desire and brings it towards you as you work towards it.

Creative Mindset Types

A creative mindset is where you express yourself creatively and foster innovative solutions to issues that arise. It allows you to develop ideas, content for your online audience, campaigns, products and more that resonate with your business or social audience.

Everyone is creative, whether they believe it or not. Some of us just need to remember how to use our brilliant imagination to better our lives! Rather than thinking it doesn’t work, or worse, using it to imagine all the things we don’t want…

Our imagination is the first step to creating the life we want to lead. It creates the thoughts, that create our emotions. Which in turn create our actions. And our actions create our experiences and results. Creativity is an expression of who and what we are in the world.

You Create The World You Want To Live In

Humans have the ability to turn something invisible into something visible. We can create an image in our mind and with the proper thoughts, actions, persistence and determination, we can then create that image as a physical thing in the world. No other creature can do that!

Where do you think everything that humans have created came from? Phones, tables, bricks, cars, planes, paper, pens, cups… Everything was first created in a human imagination!

So you have a choice. That only you can make. You can either use your imagination to focus on your current circumstances and the things you don’t want. Or on building the images of the things you do want.

When you focus on the things you don’t want, you create more of the same. ‘What is’ creation includes settling for things as they are and not as they can be. Responding to the outside world. Following the crowd. Living how others expect you to. Worrying about things that haven’t happened yet. Complaining about not having what you want… This type of thinking creates minimal opportunity for growth, happiness and fulfilment.

However, by using your imagination to focus on what you want, you open your life to new and better possibilities. ‘What can be’ creation includes questioning the status quo. Being aware of problems and finding ideas to solve them. Exploring and experimenting. Being aware you don’t know everything. Taking action to manifest what you want. This kind of creation is often sparked by having dissatisfaction with something in your life. It prompts you to think about ways you can change it. Be it your career, the want to start a business, build a house, or anything else.

How To Unlock Your Creativity

The best way to start is by setting time aside each day to daydream on a different topic. Think up a problem, and then think of ways to solve it by letting your mind wander. Don’t say or think it can’t be done just because you don’t know how to do it! Or you might think about a challenge you’ve faced for years and decide to find a way to overcome it finally.

By focusing on problems, you will only create more problems. But if you can focus on looking for solutions, then it allows you to open your mind to creating possibilities.

Creativity doesn’t always mean drawing, art, sculpture, writing or any other traditionally creative outlet. Creativity also helps you to solve problems, which leads us into the next type of mindset.

Problem-Solving Mindset Types

A problem-solving mindset is when you face facts, identify a problem, develop possible solutions and take action to solve the problem. It helps you to make decisions with ease, reach your goals, grow in confidence and be more effective in work and life in general.

Creativity plays a big part in problem solving. The use of your imagination to think about a problem from lots of different points of view will find your solution much quicker. And the best way to encourage this approach is to write the problem on a piece of paper in as much detail as possible and then put it in the middle of a table that you can walk around.

Now for the creative part.

Use your imagination to see the problem from somebody else’s point of view. Pretend you are someone you admire and think how would they solve the problem. It could be a celebrity, a famous person, someone from your family, a friend, an author. The focus is on finding a solution. The problem is on the paper. No longer inside you, so let go of it emotionally and focus on finding the solution.

Once you have a few points of view, use the information you have to make a committed decision as to the course of action you will take. Don’t try to predict the future, or other information that you don’t currently have. You can always make a new decision later if this one is wrong!

But once you make the decision do not go back on it.

How Do I Make a Committed Decision?

Decision making dominates your whole life, and the ability to make a committed decision is vital to your life choices. However, this skill is not taught in schools. You must learn to develop this ability on your own. Decisions, or the lack of them, are responsible for the breaking or making of any career. You must trust your intuition and listen to your own inner voice rather than the opinion of others.

The health of your mind and body, the wellbeing of your family, your social life, and the type of relationships you develop are all dependant on your ability to make sound decisions. Armed with the proper information and following certain disciplines, you can become a very effective decision maker. This ability will focus your mind on solutions rather than problems and solve them quickly and effectively.

“Successful people make decisions quickly and firmly. Unsuccessful people make decisions slowly, and they change them often.”

Napoleon Hill

The key point to understand is that decision making is something you cannot avoid.

You must decide right where you are with whatever you’ve got.

Do not let your resources dictate if and when a decision will or can be made. Once the decision is made to do whatever it is, the resources, money, knowledge and everything else you need will arrive just when you need it. The only consideration is whether you want it or not. Or in the case of a problem to solve, whether the solution feels like the right one or not and will lead you to what you want (the problem solved!).

More information on decision making can be found in this blog post, but for now it’s time to discuss the last of the mindset types for this post.

Entrepreneurial Mindset Types

An entrepreneurial mindset is where you conceptualise, develop and bring to life your own ideas and business. It is what powers start-ups and new business development. This mindset helps you to recognise opportunity, take the lead and innovate in the face of challenges, mistakes and change.

Entrepreneurs also share the following characteristics:

  • Sense of curiosity – they want to know why and will analyse things to see how they work in order to improve them even further or to learn about the world and people around them.
  • Comfort with failure – as with growth mindset, entrepreneurs embrace their mistakes as learning opportunities. They look for the opportunities in their challenges and use the hardship to propel their success even further forward.
  • Adaptability – Key to surviving an ever-changing world, entrepreneurs can adapt quickly and effortlessly to changes to keep ahead of the curve and not be left behind. They do not resist change; they embrace it and use it to better themselves even more.
  • Risk tolerance – Entrepreneurs are willing to take bigger risks as they understand that the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward. They don’t concern themselves with the “what if I fail” option, they keep pushing and believing in their goals.
  • Decisiveness – Entrepreneurs can make committed decisions quickly, using the information they have in that moment, and update their decisions when they receive new information. They rarely go back on a decision already made but will not hesitate to make a new one if needed.
  • Team building – Society seems to see entrepreneurs as recluses who work alone. But actually, someone with an entrepreneurial mindset is one of the best at building efficient and effective teams. Teams that work well together because their skills complement each other
  • Persistence – An entrepreneur doesn’t know when to give up! Their dreams and goals are so big that giving up isn’t an option. All the potential escape hatches are closed and no matter the roadblocks or closed doors, entrepreneurs will always keep looking for the next opportunity. Equally, they understand when they need to take a step back and rest in order to come back stronger, and are not afraid to put their needs above others.
